Your dog is not being stubborn. He is frightened.
Most of the behavior that owners describe as disobedience is actually fear, and fear does not respond to correction. It responds to being taken seriously.
What I help with
If yours is not on this list, it does not mean I cannot help. Ask.
Leash reactivity
Lunging, barking and spinning at other dogs or at people, usually on walks, usually embarrassing, always exhausting.
Read more →Aggression and biting
Growling, snapping, resource guarding, or a dog who has already bitten someone in the household.
Read more →Separation anxiety
Destruction, howling, house soiling or panic when a dog is left alone, even for a few minutes.
Read more →Fearful and shy dogs
The dog who hides, who will not take food from strangers, who shuts down on a walk or bolts at a noise.
Read more →How behavior work actually goes
First we talk. Before anything else I want the history: what happens, when, how often, what you have already tried, and what the dog looked like each time.
Then I come to you. Behavior happens at home, on your street, at your front door. That is where I need to see it, not in a training hall.
After that you get a plan. A written plan you can actually follow, in the order it needs to happen, with the management steps that keep everyone safe while the training does its slower work.
An honest word about time
Behavior modification is not fast, and anyone who promises you a fixed dog in two weeks is selling something. What I can promise is that you will understand what is happening, you will have a plan, and you will stop making it accidentally worse.
