Behavior modification

Behavior modification is more than just training. It is about helping dogs with fears, phobias and aggression. Dealing with these problems means changing how your dog reacts to the world around him.

This is different from teaching a skill. It is about helping a dog manage his own emotions. As a certified behavior consultant with more than twenty years of experience, I am qualified to help your dog work through challenges that ordinary obedience training cannot touch.

Available as private training in a single session, or as a discounted package of four visits.

Nose work

Canine scent sports

Scent sports rely on a dog's natural sense of smell to locate hidden odors. Based on bomb and drug detection training, they provide serious mental stimulation for your dog without draining all of your energy.

Nose work is fun for dogs and humans of all ages and abilities, and it is particularly good for dogs who find the wider world difficult. It is also the sport I compete in myself.

Canine Good Citizen

Canine Good Citizen testing

I am an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, #13985. That means I administer the test and certify the result myself. You do not need to train with one person and then find somebody else to sign off.

The CGC is a ten step test of ordinary good manners: accepting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, walking on a loose lead, moving through a crowd, coming when called, behaving calmly around another dog, and settling for a three minute supervised separation.

It is the most widely recognized good manners title in the country, and many therapy dog programs use it as their starting point.
